On December 23, 2023, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania approved the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vaidutė Ščiglienė, a member of the National Commission for Cultural Heritage, as the Chairwoman of this commission. This will be V. Ščiglienė’s second term in this position.
“I enter these elections having been accompanied by immense support, belief, and trust from commission members, newly elected members, and the entire team. I consider this one of the most important incentives to continue the work already begun and to seek a second term.
Cultural heritage is not a problem – it is a gift from the past and a sustainable resource for the future. If we do not destroy and preserve heritage, it always breathes with captured time and the tangible spirit of place, encompassing values that no new, shiny object can possess. Our collective aim is for all citizens of the country to equally understand the importance of heritage.
Let us also remember that heritage is a part of national security. Our cultural heritage contains our history, testifying to Lithuania’s independence from the earliest times, our achievements in international politics, art, and science. Let us protect Lithuania’s unique heritage, ensure its active preservation, and tell its wonderful stories. I highly value this opportunity to work for heritage and the Lithuanian state,” said V. Ščiglienė in the Seimas.
