  • Cultural heritage in France significant to Lithuania: new project on the way

The National Commission for Cultural Heritage is launching a new project titled “Following the Footsteps of Emigrant Creators: Culturally Significant Heritage of Lithuania in France.”  The aim of this project is to highlight and present important Lithuanian cultural heritage sites and figures in France through the U-Paveldas database.

The initiative is part of the ongoing Lithuanian Season in France, which aims to introduce contemporary Lithuanian artists to the French public. Notable figures such as sculptor A. Mončys and diplomat P. Klimas have left their mark in France, and Paris is the final resting place of Sofija Tyzenhauzaitė and Oskaras Milašius and others.

The project will expand the U-Paveldas database, which currently contains information on over 800 heritage sites from various countries. “We strive each year to find Lithuanian heritage in different countries,” says Assoc. Proff. Dr. Vaidutė Ščiglienė, Chairwoman of the Heritage Commission.

Heritage Commission is an expert and advisor to the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania, President of the Republic of Lithuania and to Government of the Republic of Lithuania regarding the national policy of cultural heritage protection, its implementation, evaluation and improvement.
