The chairperson of National commission for cultural heritage invited the representatives of European Council – Faro Convention Network experts Julie de Muer ir Prosper Wanner to Lithuania for appreciation visit. On September 1st guests have been in Kaunas and focused on very active local community of Šančiai which creatively adapted a Cabbage field for a new purpose. At the time Cabbage field is invited to join Faro Convention Network.

Experts were met by a chairperson of National commission for cultural heritage Evelina Karalevičienė, Commission’s member Andrijana Filinaitė, artists Vita Gelūnienė and Ed Carroll who initiated the adaptation of Cabbage field and Dainius Lanauskas who is a director of public institution “Gražinkime Kauną”.

Nowadays the importance of local communities in the process of heritage protection is growing significantly. During the meeting Evelina Karalevičienė and experts discussed about an upcoming international workshop dedicated to Faro convention. It is being organized by a National commission for cultural heritage and will occur on November 2017.

During the appreciation visit, experts took a look into most famous modern architecture of Kaunas interwar period and heard about beautiful initiatives of Dainius Lanauskas.

On September 2nd guests visited Kaunas Seventh Fort and were impressed by an amount of civic initiatives to adopt it for various activities and for versatile narratives those activities tell. Kaunas Seventh Fort is also invited to join Faro Convention Network.

Few hours later guests travelled to Vilnius where were met by Austėja Brasiūnaitė (the specialist of international relations of Heritage Commission). Julie de Muer ir Prosper Wanner had an excursion in Užupis and were told about most relevant urban planning problems in the city.
