On September 10, in celebration of European Heritage Days, the National Commission for Cultural Heritage opened the doors of its historic building at Rūdninkų St. 13. This year, the focus was on 20th-century modernism, presented to visitors by Dr. Vaidas Petrulis in a lecture on the journey of modernist ideas to Kaunas. On one hand, Kaunas’ architecture reflects international architectural influences, while on the other, architects who worked in Kaunas later continued their careers in other countries. The speaker also introduced local elements in modernist architecture, which enriched the face of modernism as an international architectural style. Kaunas’ modernism has become a significant part of international modernist architecture and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2023. During the event, participants also had the opportunity to explore the interior of the building at Rūdninkų St. 13, take part in a guided tour, and view an exhibition about the history of the building.
