The National Commission for Cultural Heritage has published more than 100 new objects abroad related to the creators of interwar modernism from Lithuania in its database-map upaveldas.lt. Upaveldas.lt is an initiative aimed at continuously collecting information about Lithuania’s movable, immovable, and intangible heritage worldwide.

While implementing the project (The School of Interwar Modernism in Lithuania and Its Continuity on the World Map (Updating the U-PAVELDAS Database with New Narratives and Dissemination) funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture, the National Commission for Cultural Heritage has added new objects to the map upaveldas.lt, most of which are in North America – the USA and Canada. These buildings, created by émigré architects from Lithuania, reflect the School of Interwar Modernism in Lithuania and its continuity. Kaunas Modernism, an architectural school that developed from 1919 to 1939 with a high artistic level and distinctive features, reflected the optimistic mentality of a modern state. The relevance of this style was confirmed by the inclusion of Kaunas Modernist architecture in the UNESCO World Heritage List on September 18, 2023.

The works of émigré architects were described by architectural historian Vaidas Petrulis. In searching for information about the works of these émigré architects, cooperation was established with Lithuanian embassies, Lithuanian communities worldwide, and museums in the USA and Australia.
