The Heritage Commission has officially launched its 30th anniversary year. To mark the occasion, a ceremonial meeting was held, bringing together former chairs of the Heritage Commission – Gražina Drėmaitė and Prof. Dr. Jonas Rimantas Glemža – alongside current Minister of Culture Šarūnas Birutis, Vice-Minister Dr. Ingrida Veliutė, and other distinguished guests.
The very first meeting of the Heritage Commission took place exactly thirty years ago, on February 17, 1995, at a time when the foundations of independent Lithuania’s heritage policy were only beginning to take shape. Since then, the Heritage Commission has played a key role in shaping national heritage policy, initiating significant research, and uniting communities in the effort to preserve cultural heritage. Its decisions have influenced not only legislation but also the protection of specific historical sites and the development of heritage funding strategies.

Heritage Commission is an expert and advisor to the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania, President of the Republic of Lithuania and to Government of the Republic of Lithuania regarding the national policy of cultural heritage protection, its implementation, evaluation and improvement.
