How many signs of Lithuanian heritage can be found beyond our country’s borders – in museum collections, old cemeteries, city streets, or even family photo albums? Occupations, emigration, and geopolitical upheavals have scattered Lithuanian heritage across the world – now it is our duty to find it, preserve it, and share its stories.
This year, the National Commission for Cultural Heritage together with the Cultural Attaché of the Republic of Lithuania in the Kingdom of Sweden, Dr. Gabriele Žaidytė, invites Lithuanian communities in Sweden to join a meaningful mission – to discover, document, preserve, and tell the story of the traces of our nation’s history and culture found in Sweden.
We are looking for historical sites, buildings, memorials, and other culturally significant objects related to:
🔹 Interwar diplomatic activity;
🔹 The struggle for freedom after World War II;
🔹 Lithuanian artists in Sweden;
🔹 Catherine Jagiellon and traces of the Vasa dynasty;
🔹 And other culturally significant connections between Lithuania and Sweden.
These discoveries will be compiled into a physical and digital map, enriched with photographs, and presented at the end of the year in Stockholm and Vilnius. Your participation is both a challenge and an opportunity – to preserve Lithuanian memory in Sweden and make it seen and heard.
If you know of places, people, or stories that should be included – write to us! 📩 agne.pancerovaite@vkpk.lt (by September 30).
