The National Commission for Cultural Heritage has been gathering information about the cultural heritage situation in each Lithuanian municipality since 1997. Various studies have shown a direct link between concern for heritage and positive economic and social indicators. Therefore, it is very important to widely share good examples that inspire others to view heritage not as a set of restrictions but as a unique opportunity that creates added value.
From now on, Lithuania will have its own heritage Oscars – the National Commission for Cultural Heritage presents the “Heritage DNA” awards. These awards will honor the people most distinguished in the field of cultural heritage, the best-maintained properties, and the most successful initiatives. These awards will be held only once every four years, corresponding to the term of one Heritage Commission, so the nominees are selected with particular care.
The Heritage Commission invites all residents of Lithuania, especially those from municipalities outside the major cities, to submit their candidates for the “Heritage DNA”.
Heritage Commission is an expert and advisor to the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania, President of the Republic of Lithuania and to Government of the Republic of Lithuania regarding the national policy of cultural heritage protection, its implementation, evaluation and improvement.
