ASSOC. PROFF. DR. VAIDUTĖ  ŠČIGLIENĖ

Art critic, Doctor of Humanities, educator, researcher-expert in the field of cultural heritage.

In January 8, 2020, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vaidutė Ščiglienė was appointed as a member of the National Commission for Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Lithuania. She has been appointed as a chairperson of the National Commission for Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Lithuania in June 9, 2020.

Work experience

Works as a lecturer, supervises bachelor’s and master’s theses since 1998. Therefore, worked as a guest lecturer in various Lithuanian universities. Since 2008 until now, she is an Associate Professor of the UNESCO Cultural Management and Cultural Policy Department of Vilnius Academy of Arts.

Scientific interests: art criticism, cultural heritage, cultural heritage policy, management of cultural heritage and cultural tourism, The Creative Cities, Innovative cities and regions. She has prepared publications and studies in peer-reviewed scientific journals, also publications promoting science on these topics. Participates in scientific conferences in Lithuania and abroad.

Curated dozens of exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad (National Archaeological Museum in Warsaw, The Museum of Decorative Art and Design in Riga), carried out social, cultural and educational activities (cultural and art projects, professional development programs for employees of cultural sector, museums and galleries, as well as moderation of discussions).

Most important scientific projects

In 2014–2016, leaded (Lithuanian part) a scientific project “Scientific modern analysis of research topic; Values and valuation as key factors in protection, conservation and contemporary use of heritage – a collaborative research of European cultural heritage” (SMART VALUE) (Poland, Lithuania, Italy). Head of an international consortium: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hab. Bogusław Szmygin (Lublin University of Technology).

The science and art project “Mažeikiai Region: Among the Curonians, Semigallians and Samogitians” was implemented (permanent exposition of the Mažeikiai Museum) in 2011. Head of the project – Prof. Dr. Adomas Butrimas. V. Ščiglienė received a letter of appreciation from Mažeikiai district municipality for the aspiration to preserve and present to the public the historical, cultural and artistic heritage of Lithuanian ancestors.

In 2006-2011, she coordinated the main activities of the international science and art project “Art of the Balts” (Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Germany) and carried out scientific researches. Head of the project – Prof. Dr. Adomas Butrimas.
